J. Strom Thurmond Lake

We made the short trip Wednesday and got settled in on our site by the J. Strom Thurmond Lake in the Petersburg Campground. This is the largest campground on this lake and with 93 sites it is the only one to stay open year round.
There is a beach area out from our site where we can set or take a walk along the water, the water is nice and clear. On the weekend this campground stays full and you have to make a reservation which we did because we will be here for ten days.

A small beach across the water.
A husband and wife out early kayaking with their dogs.

The dog was watching me as they were passing by. I guess to make sure I was not going to get to close to them.
I think we will like this place for the time we will spend here. We drove down in the town of Evans and they have a large number of restaurants, Super Walmart, Kroger and a few more grocery stores. The cost of gas at the Kroger with the card is $1.80 a gallon for the regular.

Thanks for stoppig by and have a great day.

Last day here

This is why we travel the back roads and stay in the National Forest Campgrounds.  We get in the car and make a 50 mile circle(not all in the same day)to look at the scenery and all the different things.
Sometimes a photo may look better if it is in black and white.
There's a for sale sign on the building I don't know if it was for the washing machine or the building with everything included. Might make a good deal on the whole thing.
A fixer upper house not much but a lot of nice land.
We have had a good time here and in the area of Parsons Mountain Lake in the Sumter National Forest just south of Abbeville, South Carolina but it is time for us to move on.  Tomorrow we will be going to Petersburg Corp of Engineers Campground on the shore of J. Strom Thurmond Lake on the Georgia side. This campground is 12 miles north of Evans. We went down to look the area over some and the town has a bit of everything you would need.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

Checking things out

We are enjoying our time at this National Park.
The small lake is good for fishing.

The leaves with their fall colors just doubles the pleasure reflecting in the mirror like water of the lake.
The last few days we have been checking the National Forests and the Corp of Engineers campgrounds around Thurmond Lake but they are closed for the season. So I got on the computer and looked at the ones in Georgia most of those were closed also but one was open. So today we are going to check it out. That will take up our day as it is 50 miles from where we are. No problem though because we always get out and see what is around us.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

In the woods again

We got on the road around 12:38 Tuesday and drove as far as Columbia. After having dinner at a Cracker Barrel I talked with the manager and ask him if it would be alright to spend the night in their parking lot he said it would. After getting ready and spending some time in a Walmart we were on our way down I-20 to exit 58.
The rest of the day was on the two lane roads where I could see something like this soy bean field beside trucks and rushing traffic.
Like this old gas station where they would come out and fill your gas tank for you and if something was wrong with your car the guy would have the part and could fix it for you.  Man those were the good old days.

We did get to a campground at the Parsons Mountain Lake Recreation area.
We got a site fairly level which was good considering most were not and for tents. There is no electric hookup but that is ok with the generator and the solar panel we are fine. There is a couple of water spigots around the campground also a shower and a dump station.
We have no phone service here and our wifi hotspot is come and go.  But that fine I like it in the woods.

Thanks for stopping by and have a good day.

No beach time

Looks like there will be no beach time this time around.  We like to come to this area for some beach time but with all the rain and the weather not cooperating with us it will have to be some other time for us. We have been getting out a few times when Nancy has felt like it but most of the time is just sitting around for her with her aches and pains she just doesn't like to be on the move to get out and do much walking.
This weekend is not the time to go to the beach for sure this morning the temp was 43 degrees and tomorrow morning is suppose to be colder so summer is for sure over.
We will be leaving here Wednesday heading out to somewhere we still have a month of traveling before we settle down for the winter.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

Mostly nothing

The rain just doesn't want to leave this area not a heavy rain like a week ago most of the time it is a drizzle but still a cool wet day.  Sometimes we do get a chance to get out.  Yesterday was one of those days we did the washing then went to Golden Corral for dinner from there to Walmart to do a little shopping.
Looks like the beach time we came here for is not going to happen this trip we only have another week here and the weather forecast is for cooler temperatures this week.  Today will be getting our medicine refilled and from there nothing is planned and it looks like that's what we will be doing.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

Getting out

The sun was shinning nice and bright the sky was blue and the roads were crowded.  It was the first time Nancy was out in a week. It looked like everyone was out to enjoy the day without rain.
We went to Walmart to do some grocery shopping as well as everyone else had the same idea.
We also had a Mexican dinner while we were out in Shallotte at the San Felipe Restaurant. We were early enough to get the lunch specials.
We are suppose to have good weather this week but a little cool and a chance of showers on Saturday.
Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

East coast flood

Well it looks like the rain is moving out and all though we had a lot of rain we are safe in the Wishing Well RV Park here in Sunset Beach North Carolina. We are about 12 miles north of Myrtle Beach.
The water was 3 inches deep around the motorhome we took care of that by staying inside all weekend.
I did get out this morning to look around the Sunset Beach and Calabash area.  The water is still high in sections of the town and going down very slowly.
Birds on the high spot of this golf course. There will be no golfing here for the next few days.

This street is impassable.
High water along the road between Sunset Beach and Calabash. Most of the ditch lines along the roads are full of water.
Another car that will be under the carport for a while.

I went out to beach side to see the damage. It didn't look too bad. As I was in the parking lot two surfers were there going to  the ocean they just never give up to do some surfing.
Some of the restaurants and stores are closed but I think they will reopen by the weekend.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

Sunset Beach Town Park

I went down to check out the park that was constructed since we were last here two years ago.
From the park you get a good view of the new bridge that was build in 2010 to replace the old swing bridge that had been here from 1957. The old bridge would open once an hour now the boats can pass anytime.
From this vantage point looking north you can see the bridge that goes over the inter coastal waterway to Ocean Isles.
A close up view of the condo and house on the ocean side.
A couple sitting in their easy chairs watching the boats on the inter coastal waterway.
I was hoping to see some large watercraft but only the small ones this day.
Nancy didn't feel well so I was by myself on this park bench.
The butterflies were out enjoying the flowers.
It was a very nice day by the water with a cool breeze blowing.
Today and this weekend its a different story in what we are under a flood watch and rain storms that are suppose to be historical portions.  So we will be in for the next couple of days, at least the hurricane missed us.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.
