Crowded Beach

We got back to the beach yesterday evening. There are more people coming to the beach. When we first got here a month ago there were few people. I would say this weekend it will really be crowded.

Heres a little guy that looks like hes ready for the surf. He looked to be around 3-4 years old and was having a time with the board which was quite a bit larger than him.

This boat was catching shrimp just off shore.

I just love to see the American Flag flying and always have to get a photo.

It was a nice day,we now have one more day here.

I can't believe its been a week since I first started having problems with a kidney stone. A week and I'm still having the pain. I did see a doctor and get some pain medication. It sure hurts when the stone moves a little. A few specks have come thru,but I'm still waiting on the "big one".
We are down to a few more days here in Sunset Beach. We have had a great time here with the beach and all the restaurants.

Oh the pain

Yes the pain is still with me. It was bad yesterday and last night that I didn't even think of the computer. Today I went to the doctor to make sure nothing was going on except the kidney stone. Just like I thought keep drinking plenty of liquids,and hope that it comes out soon. He did give me a couple of prescriptions for antibiotics and a strong pain medication. It really hasn't been any fun this week. We picked up a few groceries in Walmart while we there getting my medicine.

Doing Laundry Again

Yesterday we went shopping at Walmart and that was about all that happened that day.

Today was the day to do the laundry and of course we had to eat out. We tried another restaurant,today was Chinese. They didn't have a lot on their buffet but what they had was good.

This older Safari motorhome come in on the site next to us. I really like the murals on these motorhomes,they are a work of art.

Kidney Stone?

I woke up this morning 4:30am in a lot of pain in the kidney area of my back and I thought oh no, a kidney stone is trying to work loose. I know what that feels like because I have had about 5 or 6 of them. The last few that I have had didn't cause much pain but this one is going to be a "booger". After a couple of hours the pain eased up but my back is still sore. Hopefully it will decide to give up and come out.
We didn't do much of anything today just sat around resting.

Hot! Hot!

We thought we would go out to the beach this morning before it got too hot. We didn't make it out before it got hot. We got there around 10:30 and it was already 95° so we stayed a little over an hour and headed back to the motorhome. After eat an ice cream we took a shower.
I'm now watching the US Open Golf under the coolness of the air conditioner with the outside temp at 3:25pm at 102°. I don't think we will be doing very much today with it being so hot.

No Rain,Just Hot

The rain has gone for now,it hasn't rained for the last 2 days. To replace the rain the weather has turned hot and I mean hot. today it was 96° and tomorrow is going to be hotter according to the weather man,with the temp reaching 100°.
We have been waiting in the evening time when it is cooler to go to the beach to do our walking.

Out and About

Since it was all cloudy yesterday we thought we would get out and run around a bit. On deciding where to go I said we would stop by the South Caroling Welcome Center and look at the brochures. One thing wrong with that was as we found out the Welcome Center was closed. A sign in the window says due to budget cuts they would be open Thursday-Sunday only. Now why couldn't they have a sign out on the road telling me that instead of wasting my time getting out of the car to find out. If they are cutting cost why were the overhead fans running and no doubt the ac was on.

After driving around looking for something to get into it was time to eat again. We went to Calabash to Capt Nance's Restaurant. This little town is 3 blocks long with 4 blocks of restaurants. It was raining once again as we got in the car heading back to the motorhome.

Laundry and Eating

Yesterday was doing the laundry again. Nancy always likes to eat out when she has a day doing the laundry. Well to be honest about it she likes to eat out when she gets the chance. Anyway we went to San Felipe a Mexican Restaurant. The food was good and fresh. This was the first time at the place. This little town of Shallotte,NC has a lot of good restaurant. We got back to the motorhome and was going to walk but as it has been the last 4 or 5 days it cloudy up and was raining. It actually started raining before we even got to the motorhome.

Spaghetti

Yesterday we finally got some good spaghetti. We went to Fazoli's and had the baked spaghetti. With it raining most of the day again that was about all we did. We were going to go and walk on the beach but the rain cancelled that out. Maybe the weather will change and not have as much rain so we will be able to get out a little more. Tomorrow will be laundromat day again. So that will tie up most of the day.

Yard Sale

Yesterday the church across from the campground had a yard sale. I saw their sign in front of the church 3 days ago so I was really waiting to see what they wouls have to sale. Sometimes you can get good bargains at the yard sales. We went over to see what they had that maybe we just couldn't do without. It was a little dissapointing to say the least. There wasn't one thing that drew any interest from us. Most of the "stuff" shouldn't have been placed on tables for sale. Maybe it was us I don't know. Then again I'm just not into buying worn out and things that are broken. Maybe the next one we go to will be better.
That was all the excitement we had for theday.

Beach

It was another good beach day yesterday. That is until it got cloudy and started thundering. It looked like a storm was blowing in so we had to leave. The crowd cleared out pretty quick.

Yesterday morning we just was being lazy for a while. Nancy fixed me a big breakfast,she doesn't do this on week days its usually on saturdays. After eating we took our time to get ready. Once we were ready we went to Shallotte to Walmart to get a few things. Nancy got her a sub at Subway and I got myself a couple of the "Jumbo Hot Dogs" from Hardees. The hot dogs were a big mistake. Man did it give me a heart burn. We were going to go to the beach and walk after we ate.but I got interested in an old movie "Treasure of the Sierra Madre" with Humprey Bogart,Tim Holt and Sam Huston. It was a very good black and white movie. I really like those old movies.

A Ferry Ride

Yesterday we got out to ride around to see what we could see. We went up to Wilmington down route 211 to Carolina Beach State Park. I wantedd to see what the campground looked like. The cost for a no hook up site is to much to pay for me so I would not camp here. I is nice enough for tent camping they have a couple of water spigots through out the campground .

We did stop long enough to hike one of the trails.

We drove on down to the Southport ferry.

Here is the ferry with a load coming in from the other side. The trip takes 1/2 an hour.

We got on the ferry boat which hold 28 vehicles and goes across the wide Cape Fear River. They have an air conditioned lounge that you can set in on the trip over. This was nice and the cost of the ferry was $5.00.

Just A Beach Day

Yesterday we went back to Walmart for a few things,then had a late lunch before we came back.
The sun was shining nice so we went back out to the beach, After all thats why we're staying here! Quite a few pods of sea weed has washed upon the shore.

The guys from the fire department were practicing their beach rescue. They've got a couple of boats they use.

Walking

What used to be the Colonial Mall is now Myrtle Beach Mall. We went down to the mall to look around and get some walking in. Neither Nancy nor I have been feeling good for the last couple of days.

When we got back we went to the beach and finished up our walking. Here someone had a string of kites. It was another good beach day.

Calabash,NC

We've heard a lot about the good food and the many restaurants in Calabash,NC. So yesterday we went to see what all the fuss was about. We ate here at Becks but there are many restaurants in the small town.

The prices are fair for the fresh seafood.

Before you leave Calabash,I suggest you take the time and visit Callahan's Nautical Gifts. Now you will not get in and out of this place in short order. Once inside the store just goes and goes,it is set up on different themes. Christmas trees,Nautical and many more.

You Like Golf?

If you like to play golf the Myrtle Beach area is your kind of place.

There are houses,condo,many kinds of living quarters that have golf courses right out your front door. Something like 44 golf courses around here. That is why many people retire to this area. The other day when we were out riding around and the rain storm blew up with the hail and lightning we couldn't believe it when we saw some guys out on a golf courses playing.

Laundromat Day

Yesterday was the day to wash the clothes again. When we take the clothes out to the laundromat that doesn't leave much time for anything else to do. After we did the clothes we went to Walmart to get a couple of things.
By that time it was getting late in the day and we hadn't eat anything since breakfast we tried out a new restaurant. We had the salad bar and a steak which they prepare just right.

Just Hanging Out

Nancy wasn't feeling good yesterday so we just sat around reading and watching the tv. Anyway it rained a few times also so it was a do nothing day.

Beach and Pizzas

There goes the price of gas again. Its summertime so its time to go up just when you think you'll be able to travel a little extra.

We got our pizza fix. Its been a while since we've had one. I talked with the guy that was in charge in the pizza shop and he said they sell a lot of pizzas this time of year. They sure do prepare them good.

After we ate our pizza we went to the beach for a couple of hours. Looking back from the beach all you see are houses. No condo's or motels here. I wish we would have known about this place years ago.

Nothing Like The Beach

Thats for sure theres nothing like a day at the beach. From the time you cross over the dune and look up the beach.

Then you look down the beach,it is breathe taking to see the waves coming in upon the sand.

Walking under the pier,the waves crashing against the supports. The mussels grown on them.

Walking the beach as the water comes lapping at your feet as you look down to see the shells washing in with each wave.

As you leave and see the setting sun shines ever so bright behind the clouds,you think to yourself "this has been one great day to be alive".
