Sun Coast RV Resort

Well here we are in New Port Richey. The Park where we stay for the winter months. Even though we will be having our motor home parked we still roam around in our car to different places. I'll be posting pictures from time to time.

Frog "Yikes"

We left Tomoka State Park Yesterday. When you arrive they tell you to watch where you walk and keep an eye out for the snakes,alligators and all the other "critters". After all this is a jungle like park. Well yesterday morning Nancy got in the shower (she doesn't see well without her glasses) she saw what she thought was a piece of paper or rag,behind the hot faucet knob. She touched it to pick it up,it was a "frog". It jumped on top of her head,almost gave her a heart attack. LOL
This was just one our many experences this summer.

The Sculpture

The Lengend of Tomokie
The indians regarded a certain spring with venerable superstition,for its waters were known to possess curative powers.
They believed a messenger from the "Great Spirit" was sent every evening at dusk to drink of this "Water of Life".so called by the Indians, The dew falling into the spring from the wings of this messenger gave the waters their curative and restoring qualities.
Tomokie,gaint chief of his warriors,did not share in this belief. He greatly offended Indians of other tribes by drinking out of the spring. At last he seized the curious wrought sacred cup,never before touched by human hands. This act broughton the war of his band against the other tribes. Tomokie led his warriors into battle. Every bow and arrow of the combined enemy tribes seemed aimed at him. However,he was unharmed. Suddenly, Oleeta,a beautiful enemy maiden,was seen to spring forward,drawing her bow at the great Tomokie. The discarged arrow pierced his heart. Oleeta rushed forward,snatched the cup from the dead Tomokie's hand, only to be struck herself by a poisoned arrow,causing her to fall dead,clasping the sacred relic. This terribly enraged her tribe,who with their allies,did not desist until every member of Tomokie's band was dead. Oleeta's body was buried with stately ceremony near the spring. The sacred cup is said to be in the possession of Florida Indians at the present time.

Sunrise over ocean

I don't usually get up at 6:30 in the morning to watch the sunrise. Well maybe on special occassions.

Tomoka State Park

From the ocean site to the site in a jungle like setting. We drove 35 mile on down to the other park. We'll have to keep our eyes open while here. The park has wild animals and snakes.

On The Road

Here's Nancy as we walk the 1 1/2 mile down to the museum here in the park.

Coacoochee (Wildcat)

In the museum was a lot about the indians which inhabited this part of Florida. This is a painting of Coacoochee,who was possibly the greatest of Seminole warriors. It was Coacoochee who developed numerous guerilla attacks against the increasing US Army. His dramatic escape from Fort Marion is legend. It was this dynamic individual who provided the impetus that carried the war another five years after the capture of Oceola. When it became apparent that further resistance was futile,Coacoochee agreed to persuade somw of the remaining warriors to surrender,and with them he was shipped to the west in 1841.

Gamble Rogers Memorial SRA

After driving we arrived at the park 11:30. They had a site for one night. The ranger said check in the morning the might have a cancellation. We would like that so we could stay a week. The site is right on the beach.

Another Great View

The view out the windows of our motor home just keep changing. Each time it look like it's the best one. Thats the great thing about full timing is the ever changing views.

Florida

We left Sherry's this morning. We came south as far as I-10 then headed east until we hit I-95. South on I-95 down to exit 305 where we are staying in the Flying J. There are about 15 rv's here for the night. We only traveled 125 miles today. We stopped at several rest areas to do our walking.

The Cresent

The Cresent was the home of William S. West . Senator from Georgia. This beautiful house was to be torn down and the land was going to be a big gas station. The people stepped in and bought it. What a shame so many of these old homes are missing from our country. If you are close to Valdosta,Georgia stop by and tour this home. No charge,by donation only.

The small church is located in the back court yard. They have weddings at the church.

What a Yard

Georgous front yard with pleny of room. Beautiful large trees full of spanish moss with the branches reaching low and spreading out over the yard.

Valdosta,Georgia

We are visting our daughter(Sherry)and her husband(Mark)for a few days.
We are out of the motor home and staying with them.
I have the motor home in storage($2.00 a day)instead of staying in a campground. I can't afford high price campgrounds and this was the best way to visit.

Ashburn RV Park

This is a motel and rv park combo. Located on I-75 exit 84. It is a Passport America park. Those that don't have passport membership don't worry. Right now they have a special $9.99 a night. This used to be a Knights Inn Motel,the new owners are revamping the motel,which is looking pretty good. Don't know if the rv park part will see any improvement or not,still good for an overnight.

On Our Way

Well we left my brothers home and headed on south. We had a great time visiting and as usual they fed us too good. Nancy and I both gained a couple of pounds

Cheap Gas?

No not really but it is cheaper. After we left the FlyingJ that we stayed at last night we continued south on I-75. We took the by pass I-475 around Macon stopped in the rest area to walk. There is a dump station at the rest area. Headed on south got off exit 3. There is a WalMart on the exit we bought gas (regular unleaded) $1.68.9 WOW lowest price I've seen in a while.
We are visiting my brother in Warner Robins for a few days.

FlyingJ

We left Madisonville,Tennessee at noon today. We made it down I-75 all the way to exit 201 and are spending the night at the FlyingJ. We traveled 208 miles but that was good for us. We stop at the rest areas to eat and do our walking.
No need to hurry we're always home wherever we are. The price for unleaded gas as you can see is 1.849.

More Free Parking

How is this for a free parking spot. We are still visiting our grandson. We will be leaving tomorrow. We have had a great time visiting but,we must be heading south.

Madisonville,Tennessee

We arrived here monday evening. We are visiting our grand son Jeremy his wife Tiffany and the two great grand children. We are staying in their drive way and will be ere until Sunday. We will then continue south towards Florida for the winter. We will have several stops along the way.
