Little of Everything

Once again yesterday we stayed inside.  Rain all day long.  The weather forcast is more rain, flooding and tornado warnings.  This will last most of the day then its suppose to be better by evening time. So I guess it will be another one of those inside days today.
All this wind and rain is the result of  Tropical Storm Nicole. I'm sure glad it didn't get strong enough to be a hurricane.

Barefoot Landing

Yesterday it cleared up and stayed nice long enough for us to go down to Barefoot Landing to get some good walking in.  It has been a long time since we have been here but not much has changed.  Not that we can remember anyway.

We walked all around the man made lake.
Most of the restaurants were closed for the season.  What few that were open did not have many customer's.

This one with the outside dinning was nice.

T-Bonz looked good with the landscape just right.
Today will be another day of rain that is coming ahead of the tropical depression that will hit us on thursday.

Rain

This is the way it looked for the last couple of days. Hard rain and thunder. The weather reported nearly 10 inches of rain and flooding in several counties. It is suposse to ease up today but get started back raining by evening time. A lot of sitting inside and watching the rain.

Rain,Rain

Saturday was spent watching college football games.  Three games to be exact.  In all of the three games the teams I was pulling for lost.  I usually want the underdog teams to win and I guess that is the reason I lose a lot of games.  It rained towards evening time and also rained most of the day Sunday.
It started raining again early this morning only harder than the other two days.  It looks as though we will be stuck in the motorhome for the entire day.  The weather report is for hard rain and maybe severe at times with wind gust up to 30--35mph winds.

Just a lazy day

Part of a sand dollar.  Yesterday was another beach day.  We are getting so lazy, just going to the beach and relaxing all day long.  This retirement is tough but maybe if we try hard enough we can handle it.  Today will be my day of watching football games all day long.  Nancy will be doing her thing of reading one of her many books.

Beach

Yesterdaywe got to the beach earlier and stayed later. We felt like we could handle the sun longer since we have got a pretty good tan.

The fast boat was out and really going at a fast speed yesterday.  I guess the people on it were enjoying themselves.
We thought these birds were funny looking with the large one in the middle of the flock.  It looked as those it was saying I'm the boss here.   Another nice day at the beach with the sun and us doing staying longer and walking more.  It was getting past our time for eating so on the way back to the motorhome I stopped at Domino's Pizza and ordered up a pepperoni and cheese for us.  After a day of sun, wind, walking and water the pizza tasted good.

Out Today

Yesterday we started the day just like all other days-slow.  We drove to Shallotte where we had an early dinner at Jerome's.  The reason we ate early was the special on the buffet only last til 3:30PM.  Even though the special was a good price, like most of the places they make it up on the drinks.  We have paid from $1.50 to $3.00 for drinks at different buffets.  From dinner it was to the Dollar Tree for a few things. The Dollar Tree keeps getting more and different things. The name brands are even producing smaller sizes so they can be sold for a $1.00.  We go into these stores when we can because each stock somethings that the other doesn't have.  After Dollar Tree it was to the Laundromat for a couple of hours, then to Walmat for another 1 1/2 to 2 hours. By the time we got home put everything away it was time to settle in for the evening and night.

Another Beach Day

It was back to the beach for us yesterday.

The waves looked like they were back to normal size.
There wasn't very many people at the beach yesterday, maybe it was because of all the seaweed that had washed ashore. Not many went into the water, most were just soaking up the sun.
I couldn't tell what they were doing on this boat. I may have been a fishing vessel.  It was another nice day with mostly sunny day and a breeze blowing.

Beach

Yesterday and today it will be going to the beach and not much of anything else.  Of course thats why we came here is to enjoy the beach and sun. The last few days we have been to the beach a little later in the day. We find that by doing this we have a chance of getting a better parking place closer to the beach.

Out for Dinner

Yesterday we went into the Plantation Golf Course and housing complex. I've seen the billboard advertising this everytime We've been on the road so we went in to look.  It is a very large gated community with individual housing and also condos.
After driving thru we were on our way for dinner.  We went to Calabash,NC.  All of the eating places were crowded,so we settled on Cap't Nances to eat. We only had to wait 15 minutes to get a table.
That was all the excitement we had for yesterday.

Big Yard Sale

Yesterday was started by going to a big yard sale at the church down the road about a mile below our campground.  I bought another vcr and Nancy found herself some books and ear rings.  They had very good prices on the things they were selling and the huge crowd there was taking advantage of those prices. After the yard sale we went to the beach later in the day.

This way of getting across the water will soon be over after the new bridge is open. The opening should be in a few more weeks.  I know the people that live on the island will be glad and so will the boaters that have to wait until on the old bridge to open just once each hour for them.

Walking up the beach was nice but as you can see the sun was bright coming off the beach and water walking down the beach.  We got there arounf 4:00PM. There was a nice breeze and it was very comfortable this time of the day.

Good Day

The weatherman said the waves coming ashore would bagan to swell due to hurricane Igor.  Yesterday we could see a small difference in the size and today we should see larger waves.   There was more people at the beach than there were on monday and tuesday.

The boat with a gang of sightseer's on it having fun.

The shrimp boats were out in force. We counted eight of them off shore catching shrimp.  It was another 90° day.

Beach

We enjoyed another day at the beach yesterday. We are just a couple of old beach bums.

A couple of guy pulling in their net. I don't know what they were going for,but the net was large. It took both of them to pull it in.

The undisturbed dunes that line the 2 miles of Sunset beach.  It is very nice to see the beach without the high rise buildings that a lot of beaches have.
Today we have to go to the laundromat to get our scatter rugs clean. We needed a break from the beach because we have gotten a lot of sun the last few days and we for sure don't want to burn.

Back to the Beach

Yesterday we decided it was beach time.  So we went out to get in the car and I saw the tire on the front was low.  Not wanted to get to the beach and then having to deal with a flat I took the car to Walmart to get it repaired.  The guy at Walmart said they couldn't fix it because I had put the repair stuff in a can in it.  It was then down the road to a tire place that said they could repair it.  They found a screw in the tire and repaired it.

I got back around 1:30PM and we did get to the beach.  It wasn't as crowded as it was when we were here in June, but still quite a few people.  We walked up and down the beach, sat in our chair.  After a couple of hours of this we thought we had enough sun so we came home.

Flea Market Day

Yesterday morning was a slow starting day for us,I guess because of the two straight days of traveling. I was going to watch some football games but then decided to go down to the flea market.  We went down in June and didn't think it was much of a flea market but found out that we must have not of looked very good.  It seemed much larger this time.  I didn't find anything. Nancy bought her a set of 4 microwaveable bowls which has wanted for sometime.
The photo above looks like guitars which they are not. They are just craft items to be hung on a wall.  We spent a little time in the flea market then went to see if the new bridge was open. It is not open yet but should be soon.

Did the laundry

Yesterday we did get to the laundromat to do the laundry.  While Nancy was busy doing the laundry I made a run to Home Depot for a new water filter.  I checked online to see which one I wanted so when I went to the store I told the guy the number.  They did have it and I was surprised the it was a $1.00 cheaper in the store.  This filter is a little different than the one I had in the it has a remote inside to let you know when the filter is due to be changed.  Oh this modern technology.
We then went to Walmart for a few things.   By that time it was getting a little late so we says we'll go to Southern Bites where we ate several times when we were here in June.
We found out when we arrived that Southern Bites was closed and by reading the note on the door that due to the economy that they could no longer stay open.  Things are still not looking real good with  places going out of business and people losing jobs.
After getting back home and setting up the water filter we just watched tv and relaxed the rest of the evening.

Sunset Beach,North Carolina

We left Sumter,South Carolina yesterday around our usual time of 11:30AM.  After traveling slow and stopping for a small lunch we arrived at Wishing Well Campground at 2:30PM.  We got the site that we had here in June.  Upon hooking up I discovered I didn't have my water filter,I think it is back in Kentucky at Camp Nelson.  Also the twist in stakes that I use to hold the awning down are back in Tennessee at Clabough's Campground.  I must be getting old and forgetful,or maybe just like a bunch of others that travel this still.
Today the plan is to go to the laundromat in Shallotte. Also I really need to get another water filter because this water has a little red to it that without the filter will turn the basin and shower red.

Plans Changed

Yesterday morning I woke up to the smell of waffles, hot syrup and sausage. No Nancy wasn't fixing breakfast, you see we sleep with the windows open and that smell was coming from the Waffle House across the street.
Our plans have changed, instead of going on south,we are now going to Sunset Beach again.  I told Nancy it was just to early to put the horse in the barn,so to speak.  So it was east instead of south.  I drove a bunch of miles for me yesterday(213).  We stayed the night at the Walmart in Sumter,South Carolina and that leaves around 100 more miles for today.  We will be staying a month at the Wishing Well Campground again.  This small campground of around 15 sites has full hook ups with 30 amp electric and that is all, which is fine for us.  If you want more you can go 1/2 mile down the road to a KOA for $45.00 a night instead of the $300.00 a month we pay to stay at the Wishing Well Campground.

No lake camping

After staying the night in the Walmart lot at Cleveland,TN yesterday we were on the road again.  I saw on the internet a place with free camping on lake Chatuge,Ga.
So naturally I wanted to see what it was like.

We passed the lake(Parksville Lake)still in Tennessee there  was a hydro-electric plant at the base of the dam.  It has two hydro motors to generate electricity. A very nice looking lake.

The more we traveled along side of the lake the better it was looking.  So by the time I got to the start of the lake there was a huge parking lot and I couldn't stand it anymore so I parked and got out the old fishing rod and did a little fishing. I've got my life time Tennessee license so why not. It feels so good to not have tight plans.
On to the camping spot.  It wasn't there,no sign of a free camping place.  So we drove on and spent the night---you guessed it---Walmart lot in Cornelia,Ga.

On the Road Again

We left Clabough's Campground around 11:30AM yesterday and it took us 2 hours to get out of town. The traffic was bumper to bumper and I mean bumper to bumper.
We got to Cleveland,Tennessee and stayed at a Walmart for the night.  We had a slow pleasant day traveling and ate lunch and dinner with all the left over food from the day before.  We still have enough food for a couple more days.

What a day

The day yesterday started out with the family church service in Peach and Don's cottage.  There was a bible sermon by Don and all of us sang a couple of songs.

Then after the serman the cooking started a couple of hours later.  With steak and chicken on the grill. Some were making fetticcine and salad and a bunch of desserts.

Look at all that food, enough to feed a small army.

What else can you do after eating more than you should, sit around talking I guess?

Sitting around everywhere. This was a good day indeed.

Very Good Day

We had our good hot dogs and burgers yesterday, but the best part was just sitting around and talking with each other.
Family reunion time is for taking photos and there was always a camera in your face.
Everyone had a laugh or two during the day after eating all of the good stuff. Here from left to right is Jackie,Peach Nancy's sisters, and Sherry our daughter.
The old man of the bunch is Don listening to someone.
Nancy,what is so funny?
Today another good eating day with Don,Nancy's brother preparing the main dish, steak and chicken fettuccine.

Big Week-End

We left The TVA Douglas Lake Campground around 12:00 yesterday.  I stopped at Krogers to fuel up the motorhome at a price of $2.32 with the Kroger card.  Thats the cheapest price in town.  From there we proceeded to Clabough's Campground.  When I was setting up the motorhome I came around the backside looking down at the ground and ran smack dab into the slideout hitting my head and almost knocking myself out.  I bent my glasses up and out of shape, but managed to straighten them up.
The rest of the family was coming in during the day except Don he had some sort of car problems and didn't get here until nightfall.
Today we well be visiting and later on we will be having our hot dogs and hamburgers grilled outside.  With the hot dogs and burgers we will have a few sides.

Out and about

Yesterday we did go into town.  I had to go to the insurance office to get my car and motorhome insurance card up to date. Also went to the courthouse to see about the lincense for them but when I got there it was a large crowd waiting in line.  All of the offices had a paper on the windows saying closed until further notice,no time on when they would be open. Maybe those people knew of the time it would open, but I didn't wait around because there were at least 50 people ahead of me.  I'll check again today.
Nancy went to the used book store and traded her books for some more to read.  From there we went to a new "Ci Ci's Pizza.  After seeing the price and started to walk out the manager asked why we were leaving and I told him his pricing was too high he gave us a discount.
Today we will be going to the laundromat again.
Here is another good place to eat.

Bridge nicely decorated with flowers that is at the Old Mill restaurant.
