Berkshire,Ohio

This is 1 of 4 wrecks we saw today on our way to Niagra Falls.
The first traffic we had that slowed us down to a craw was in Cinncinnati. It was normal traffic flow for them.

The next was Columbus right at rush hour going home traffic. With all the cars and trucks on the interstate we still enjoyed our travels today.
We are staying the night at a FlyingJ just north of Columbus.

Traffic

The wreck above was the result of an 74 year old man running a red light and being hit broad side by a utility truck. The accident left the mans wife dead. Lexington,Kentucky is a night mare to drive. I've driven in a lot of towns and cities and Lexington is one of the worst. The people here are in a hurry all the time.

Nice Drive

This is a section of US 27 that we drive on between Camp Nelson and Lexington. There is nice scenery all along this road.
Nancy is feeling a little better today. It may be the medicine she has been taking. She will get the results from the boodwork today or tomorrow.
Once again our time here is extended, ntil thursday as of now unless something changes the plans again.

Doctor

Everything is almost the same except that Nancy had to go to the doctor today. She should have gone before now but kept putting it off. The doctor took some blood to do the blood work. Possible sinus drainage or maybe her medicine she taking. We will maybe still have to wait another day to leave. Hopefully the doctor can find something.

Campground

Camp Nelson Campground where we are now is not a fancy campground but it is an older campground. It serves our purpose for visiting our daughter that lives in Lexington. It is 22 miles from her house and is a drive on US 27 which is a divided road. It is located on the old Lexington road. In the photo above is the new bridge of US 27.
Going down into the campground are 3-4 of these animals. They may be elpackas or llamas or something else I do not know.
We have been visiting Vicke and family every day we have been here.

A Sad Feeling

We are staying at the old Camp Nelson, where now is a campground. Only 2 miles from the campground is the Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
We stopped and payed our respects to the ones who were in the military. Reading on the tomb stones and seeing 21 and 22 year old MEN who died in action left us with a sad feeling knowing these who lie here were so young.

There are thousands buried here. The thing that makes one sad is that these have died protecting a country that people have no respect for our flag or country. A visit here would hopefully change their mind.

Camp Nelson

After having a good nights sleep in the Walmart lot we had our breakfast got ready and took off.

After a couple of pleasant hours of driving we arrived at Camp Nelson Campground. Where the campground sits between trees and a rock cliff I can't get a sattellite signal. Also no phone signal,so the only time I will be able to get online is when we are visiting Vicki.Camp Nelson

Nice Trip

We did get away from the Pigeon Forge area today. We took off north on I-75.

Soon we were in Kentucky. We stopped in at the welcome center to grab a bite of lunch. While we were there we also got much needed walking in.
We came upon an accident scene that had just happened. The hiway patrol and ambulance were still on the scene.

I don't know what happened but,a mini van and full size van were envolved. There was also a cargo trailer on the side of the road. The trailer with Florida license had a chewed up tire on it. So I guess the trailer had a blow out or flat causing the van to lose control. Other than seeing this accident we had a nice trip. We are staying the night in the Walmart lot in London,Ky.

A Very Nice Day

Nancy and I have been lacking on our walking so we made it a point to walk some today. We have slowly got out of shape so we need to get back to our walking each day.
Our son (Joe) came over this evening with his family and Cherisa's mom for a cook out. Joe did all the grilling and did a good job of it. We had a nice time and the weather was nice and cool.
We will be trying to leave again tomorrow on our way to Lexington,Kentucky.

When we are in Pigeon Forge I try to make a trip to the top of the Smokie Mountains. After driving through the heavy traffic in Gatlinburg we finally came to the park.
After curve after curve and a couple of tunnel we go to the top. We.ve seen this view at least 40-50 times it is always breath taking. The temperature in the vally was 75° but on top of the mountain it was only 57°.

The roderdendrun is in full bloom on the mountain and is simply beautiful. I had to take some pics of the flower lined mountain streams.
In the picture with the water you can't see the flowers of the roderdendrun very well but this is what they look like.

A Day of Laundy

Yesterday was the day to do the laundry again. While nancy was busy Haven and I walked uo to Kmart to buy him a toy with the money that his dad gave him. He found him a toy but we were standing in line and the cash registers went down so not knowing how long it would be I told Haven we would just go to Walmart when his"Nanny" finished with the clothes. From Walmart we came back to the motorhome and put the clothes away. Then it was off to Golden Corral for dinner. Haven and I ate until I thought one of us was going to pop.

The price of gas is coming down but I don't think it will last to long. The price of crude oil was up the last 2 days so the gas will start going up again.
Here's someone off to the campground with a load of fire wood for the weekend.

Dollywood

When we are in Pigeon Forge we try to get out to Dollywood and see some of our friends that we use to work with. Yesterday was that day to go visit.
Here Nancy and our grandson Haven pose for a pic.
When in Dollywood the fountain is a good place for family to meet at a certain time when they become separated.

A ride on the old carousel makes the kids happy.

Be sure to stop in and have a burger your way. You get to load the burger up the way you like. It was a good day visiting and talking with old friends once again.

Same O

Not very much happened yesterday. Haven was over to spend the day with us. We ran to the post office from there to Walmart to buy groceries. Stopped to fill up the car with gas at the Kroger station. The price of gas there was 2.32.9 a gallon. Gas is slowly coming down in price. Hopefully it will come down to where it should be.

Here we are

Yesterday we left Creekside RV Resort heading out for Lexington,Kentucky. I says to Nancy lets go out and see if there is an open site at Douglas Lake.
Well as you can see there was one. So we will be in the area another week. Its really nice to be able to do this. Never being on a schedule. Going or staying as long as you want to.

2 More Days

I thought we were going to leave today, but we are going to stay a couple more days then I think we'll be leaving.

We went out to Douglas Lake yesterday to look around and had this great view of the lake from the overlook on the hill.
Of course when I get the chance I like to take pictures of barns. Especially the old ones. The older the better.

MaMa's Farmhouse Restaurant

After Nancy did the laundry we went to the new restaurant MaMa's Farmhouse.

The food was good, but the price wasn't. Not for me anyway. They had 2 pieces of chicken set out with small bowls of vegetables, which wasn't near a serving for each of us that other places serve. Small portions of pork and steak with gravy. They did have a plate full of biscuits and corn muffins. The Price?

$16.99 each with diet colas at $3.00 each. Unusual for me to go in and eat at a place without know the price first. So if you are in Pigeon Forge and want to try it out this is what you will pay unless the price comes down.

Driving Around

We had to go out to do the laundry today.

Here is another one of many dinner theaters they have in Pigeon Forge.

If you come to Pigeon Forge,Tennessee be sure to get out on the back road. You may see a nice little road like this tree draped road.

I know you like to look around when you come to a town like this

Staying Longer

We are staying here at Creekside RV Resort until saturday. I hope we get our business taken care of by that time.

You want to get married? How about getting married in the Smokie Mountains. There are several wedding chapels here, any kind from log cabin type to the white ones with tall steeples.

Good steak and rib places to eat.

Or maybe you like mexican food, chinese food. Hey you can find it here.

A ride down veterans blvd. to look at the country side.

How about Dolly's Dixie Stampede for a show and a dinner that is so good to eat.
And who wouldn't want a gift like these from the Smokie Mountains.

Time to leave.

Yes it is time for us to move on,but not very far. We are going to move maybe 1/2 mile to Creekside RV Resort. We were going to stay out at Douglas Lake, but their campground is full. The reason for the move is that Creekside is a PassPort America Park and I get a site for 1/2 price. PassPort America is a good thing to have. It only cost $44.00 a year and they have campgrounds all over North America. They do have some restrictions that vary from park to park. If you don't belong check it out.
It has been great here with the high speed wifi connection. When we are on the road I have to connect with my cell phone and it is veeery slow. I only get on line after 9:00 at night because it is free minutes then, other wise it would use up all my minutes.

Only Us

Well the Family Reunion is over and all has gone or on their way home. That left only Nancy and myself in the campground. We are leaving tomorrow, but if we can get a camping site out at Douglas Lake we will stay in the area a little longer to visit with Haven,Cherisa and Joe.

Day After 4th

We were going to have our family breakfast cook-out this morning, but it was raining. so we had to cancel that out. Maybe we will try in the morning, there will still be a few of us here in the morning.
I guess the town is extra crowded since most of the people are leaving to get home and get ready for work tomorrow.

Happy Birthday America

A great day today 4th of July. It may or may not mean a lot to you but being an American is special to me. My mother and father was not born an American but came to this country at an early age. My grandfathers brought them over at an early age and they grew up as Americans. They came through Ellis Island in the early 1900's. I thank them many times even though they died when I was to young to remember them. I thank them because,it was because of them I was born an American and when I see old glory flying in the breeze A tear comes to my eyes.
Enjoy your fouth of July.

After traveling through the hills and mountains we are in Pigeon Forge.

You know when you see a sign that says anything about Dollywood you are there.
All the family are here and we had a cook out today. We had the usual Hot dogs and burgers. The best part though was seeing everyone again and catching up on all the news thats happened in the past year, also reliving the things of the years gone by.
Tomorrow we will have our pot luck which is always good with the different dishes.
A great day was had by all.

Thursday, July 02, 2009

We got started and traveled the back roads yesterday. What I didn't know was the amount of tobacco that is grown in South Carolina. They even have a Tobacco Museum. We passed large fields after fields of tobacco.
Now I did know the state grew a lot of corn, which state doesn't grow a great amount of corn? I guess corn may be one of the easy crops to grow.

Here is the way I like to see the town do their water towers. It looks like a work of art on some of the water towers. This is always better looking then some of the old ones that are rusty and looks as though they are about to fall down.

When we got parked at the Flying J in Rock Hill yesterday a storm blew in. It was thunder, hail, rain and wind at the same time. It was pretty "hairy" for a little while but after it passed it turned out to be a nice evening.

We are still here

We started out to go to Lexington,Kentucky yesterday, but I says to Nancy lets got out to Douglas Lake to check one more time to see if a site was open.

Guess what? Here we sit, there was a site open. So it looks like we will be in the area another week. It sure is rough to have such a tight schedule. Not really, this is the way we like to travel is to change out plans whenever we want to. Such is the rving life. We make make quick plans then never follow them through.

On Top of the Smokies

When in Pigeon Forge I try to go to the top of the Smokies. I've seen the view 40 or 50 times but it is always breath taking for me. We drove through Gatlinburg which took quite a while because the traffic was very thick this time of year with people on vacation.
We finally got through Gatlinburg and into the park.

After curve after curve and a couple of tunnels we were on top of the mountain. It was rather cool today on the mountain. The valley temperature was 75° and the mountain top it was 57°.

The roderdendrun was in full bloom and beautiful. I had to take a few pics of the bloom lined streams.
In the pic with the mountain stream you can't see the flowers but this is what they look like.
