Nancy's Therapy

Yesterday we went to the doctor for Nancy's follow up visit. He told us that the rotato cuff tear was pretty bad and he had to put 3 anchor screws in her joint and add some kind of stuff to keep her shoulder ball joint and socket from rubbing together. He also told her she would need at least 2 months of therapy,so I guess we will be staying here for a while. After seeing the doctor she had an hour of therapy,so last night her shoulder hurt a little more since she had to move it around. It will all be worth it if she has no more pain after the healing.
We went to the new Cracker Barrel Restaurant. I was dissapointed because I get the breakfast order of Uncle Herchel. They didn't have it on the menu. So I order something else in the breakfast line. When our food came out we didn't get it prepared the way we ordered it. The eggs were not fried enough and neither was the meat plus the meat had about a spoonful of grease on top of it. Needless to say I did talk to the manager and told him this was the first time visiting a Cracker Barrel that I complained about the food. I guess the cook needs a bit more training.

Nice Day

We didn't go to church yesterday. Nancy didn't want to take a chance of someone bumping into her sore shoulder.
I walked around the park at noon yesterday, then we had lunch. After that Iwent to the pool for a swim, which is my exercise. The sun was hot and the cool water of the pool felt good. I came home took a shower and headed for WalMart for a few things we had to have. After dinner it was time for another walk around the park. Nancy decided she would try to make it around with me,she said she thought she could make it. After we were half way round she had to stop and sit on a bench for a while. She says "I'm weaker than I thought I was". She did make it around though.
These small flowers are growing in weeds that have died out because of the lack of water. It is still dry in the area and with most of the people gone the flowers have not been watered.
Not the case of the lily pad blooms. They have plenty of water. It looks nice looking out over the water and seeing all the blooms on the pads.

Here is moma feeding her young chicks. They may grow to be adult or not. Depending on how hungry the alligators get. We have a few large and a few small gators in the lake.

Recovering

Yesterday Nancy was still feeling the effect of the operation,so she just sat around trying to get comfortable, which she couldn't do. I had a little walk around the park, then went down to the pool for a little exercise swimming. Then I grilled some pork steaks that with a baked potato and a salad was enough for us.
Nancy did sleep better last night and is feeling some what better this morning. I will have to take all the tape that is on her shoulder and put a clean dressing on for the day. She says she may try walk in the park today. I don't know about that we will have to wait and see. The doctor told her to not over do it,but knowing her she wants to bounce back right quick.

No News Yesterday

Sorry about not putting anything on yesterday. We got up early because Nancy had the surgery on her shoulder and we didn't get back until late afternoon. She is doing almost fine her shoulder is hurting but as time goes by it will get better and not be a constant pain as before. She didn't sleep very well last night but thats to be expected I guess. She takes her pain medicine and also has to have an ice pack on the shoulder. Oh well when we start to aging the parts start wearing out. Not much will happening today, just taking care of Nancy. I fixed breakfast so next is some house cleaning and then planning

What Can I Say

Yep,what can I say. Yesterday was a repeat of the day before, with one exception. We did not go to WalMart. How is that possible to not go to WalMart for a day? We spent a little longer down at the pool. As our tan begins to darken we can stand it a little longer. We walked around in the park looking at the park models for sale. We stopped in to visit a couple of friends that had bought one of the park models. They already had own one but wanted more room,so now they are selling that one. Thats the way a lot of them in the park do is buy and sell and move. Being a 55+ park there are those that die and their children sell the houses. When ever someone buys one of these they clean them out and take the stuff down to the "mall". The place where you put things that you don't want that someone else might be able to use. Like lamps, small tables, fans, which makes it a nice deal.
Today will be a laundromat day,so that will take up some time.

Pool Day

Yesterday day was just a lazy hot day so we went down to the pool for a couple of hours. There were some more people down there with the same idea as we had. Nothing else to do accept to lazy around the pool. Its a hard life but someone has to do it. You work hard all your life and if you're lucky you get a few years to enjoy your retirement. After the pool we came home, had dinner then it was off to WalMart for a few things. This may not sound exciting but it is what we do. Often times you just feel like sitting around and enjoying doing nothing much at all. We still got our 4 miles + of walking so it wasn't all sitting around.
Today is another sunny day with the temp in the 80's so we will be going down the the pool again.

Operation Scheduled

Well finally Nancy found the problem to her shoulder pain. She has a torn rotater cuff. She will be having it operated on Friday. After this she will have a month of therapy and 4-6 months healing, then everything should be fine.
She also got a good report from the other doctor, her triglycerides went way down.
We were tied up most of the day,we did walk a little over 4 miles for the day. On our walk around the park we spoke to several people some of which are leaving to go back north today. It looks like we will be staying a month longer then we thought. No big deal on that part since we have very loose plans and any thing that comes up we can handle it.
Another nice day in the 80's with a bunch of sunshine.

More Doctor Appointments

Yesterday as all days was nice and pleasant. We went to church and hear a good sermon by Pastor Guy,then the singing was really good. After church we went out to dinner with our friends Dick and Jane and their Sunday School Class. We had dinner at Barnhills which have a good buffet. After we got back home we sat around for a while then we took the garbage to the dump and a walk around the park.
Today Nancy has to see the Orthepaedic Doctor to see if he can find anything about her MRI that shows what is wrong with her shoulder and arm. Then both of us have an appointment with our regular doctor for a check up and writing our perscriptions for our medicines while on the road.

Nice big bloom on a small bush in the park.

Days Gone By
Sometimes the subject in the photo just looks better in a black and white.

Civil War Reenactment

Yesterday was a nice day and we did something different. We went to J B Starkey Park and saw our first Civil War Reenactment. This was the battle of the Anclote River Raid. We have been wanting to see one of these for years.

They had their different camps set up with all the things of that time period. This weekend not only did the act out the war but live it as though they were back in the 1800's
We enjoyed seeing the chairs and all the old stuff from the days back then.

The actors and their families had the fire going with their meal cooking.

Heres an old buckboard from back in that time.

Even had an old covered wagon. I call this one of the fulltiming rigs.

The ladies had on the long dresses, bonnets and their parasols for shade from the sun.

Then it was time for the battle between the Conferate and the Union soldier. The Cnferate was coming thru the woods .

They met the advance troop of the Union and the battle was on.

The cannon on the hill fires on the Union Soldiers.

The riders on horseback come on the scene. I watched the horses thinking that the loud cannon firing would "spook"them but they acted like they didn't here the noise which was very loud. I guess maybe they are use to it. The battle lasted longer than I thought it would. It was a hot but very interesting afternoon.

Lot of Critters

After Nancy had an MRI of her shoulder we went down to John Chestnut Park to walk.

We took the trail that is 3 miles first. We sa this large Red Headed Wood Pecker on the ground looking for insects.
Of course we always see the lizards running all over the place. I bought some critter food to give to the squirrels and birds.

Even so some Dragon Flies today. This is the first photo I have taken of a Dragon Fly.

Here is a small Red Headed Wood Pecker that came down on the railing for some seeds. Where the large ones are 18" long the small ones are about 6" long. They look the same the difference is size and the large ones have a nice crown on their heads.

After the long trail we started out the shorter trail and saw a Roseate Spoonbill. This is twice we have seen these down here.

We got half way around the boardwalk and then we saw this snake and that was the finish of the trail for us. We don't like to fool with snakes so we doubled back and that was the trail walking for the day. We have encountered a few snakes in our walking in the woods, but we continue to walk out in them. It is so much fun the watch the wildlife.
We are going to try and get out to J B Starkey Park to watch the Civil War Re-enactment today.

Slowing down to a crawl

Thats the way it is,no much of anything going on. Well anyway here goes.
Yesterday we were moving slow with no plans and nothing to do. I did manage to climb up on the roof of the motorhome and give it a good scrubbing, then after lunch we again went shopping big time at WalMart. Then in the evening it was walk time and garbage time.
Nancy had another restless night with her shoulder hurting her. She is going to have an MRI on the shoulder today and hopefully they can find and do something to get rid of the pain.
The park is getting quite empty with another group of people leaving tomorrow we will just about be here alone with just a few of the people that stay year round.

Trip to Clermont

Yesterday day morning was still cool,so it was a good driving day. I drove out RT 52 to interstate 75 and headed north. After a short time I pull off to head east on RT 50. I keep saying we were going to Clermont but we were going to Groveland which is a small town.

I always like to get off the interstates so I can see the things that were popular during the days before so many of the super highways were build. As we were going we saw the flowers beside the road.
Also the old houses that years ago was someones pride and joy.

When we use to come to Florida years ago on these road people were still living in them. Of course this was 45-50 years ago. It is sad to think of the times past when the fields were being worked and the crops growing and now seeing full grown trees there. But life moves on.
We were glad to see our friend Jerry and she was glad to see us. After a few hours of our visit we started back home. I took Rt 41 south so no interstate coming back. There is a used book store that Nancy likes to stop into for some old books to read. Along this road are old mom and pop motels of the past that are now apartment for people to live in. With the interstate taking all the traffic they have no one stopping for the night so they've got to rent them out for families to live in. It wass a nice day.

Traveling Today

WOW,I thought it was spring time! This morning it was 41* that is too cold for me. Well it is going to warm up and into th 80's in a few days.
Yesterday was a wash day,so since it was cool and we were close we walked in the mall. They were having screening test for elderly people and some other things. They even had some of the people singing and one guy played the piano. These people were good with their talent.
On the way back stopped at the walmart, got a card to get the 3 cent gas discount,it was still 3.26 with the discount. After washing the clothes I stopped and got Nancy a pizza. We walked a little more after we got back home.
Today we are going up to Clermont to see and old friend we met in Navarre our first year of fulltiming in 2000. We've been in touch thru the years and Her husband died this past October so it will be a little different visiting Gerry without Vern being there. We are very thankful for the special friends we have met while we have been living this lifestyle. Without traveling like we do we would have missed some very nice people.

Walk in the park

Yesterday was another cool windy day. Even though the sun was shining it was cool with the wind blowing. We went out to the J B Starkey Park to do our walking on the bike trail.
Nancy saw the orthepedic doctor yesterday,so now she has to have an MRI before he can come to a conclusion on whats causing the pain in her arm.

This is a field of flowers just outside of the entrance to the Orchid Lake Park.
When we got to the park to do our walking they were setting up the tents for the Civil War Re-enactment there they will be having this weekend on saturday and sunday. There should be a large crowd to see this.

You know its spring time when you see the bloom coming out all over. This magnolia tree had just one beautiful flower on a branch. I'm sure in another week the tree will be full of them.
Today is our laundromat day,so the walking may get a little behind for today.

Nice Day

Yesterday was a cloudy day and a cooler day. We went to church,Pastor Guy had another good sermon. After church we had dinner with our friends Hazel and Lee. We had dinner at the Inn on the Gulf, which is a nice place. After eating, our friends invited us to their house. They showed us around their place which is very nice located next to a canal which leads to the Gulf. We found out we have a lot in common,Lee brought out his record player and some old vinyl records of Gene Autry,Patti Page and more of the old recording stars. We enjoyed this because we used to have some of the same ones which we lost in the floods back in West Virginia.
After a couple of hours we had to get back home so we excused ourselves.

Today Nancy has an appointment with the joint doctor. Sure hope she can get some relief of the pain she is having, nothing seems to work.
We have no other plans.
It was 59* when we woke up this morning, the temp is only getting up to 70 today.

Another Park

Yesterday day was hot again. One of our friends asked us if we had been down to a park off Rowan Road,we hadn't so he told us where it was.

So down the road we went looking for the park. Now if we hadn't been told we would not have found the park, because it is new and they are still working on it. The entrance is nice.
After getting in the park and a short walk we came to the boardwalk that went along the side and over the river. There are two trails that are just over 2 miles in length and I'm sure with yhe acreage that is here they will be more trails.
There is very nice scenery along the river with benches to sit and rest if you need to do so.

I like this part here with the small island and tall palm tree. It really got hot for us and we worked a pretty good sweat walking. After we got back home we went to the pool to cool off for a couple of hours. After getting home from the pool we took our showers. I put some weiners on the grill and had hot dogs for my meal. Nancy ate something else, she isn't a fan of hot dogs.
Another good day.

Good Friends

Yesterday Nancy did get her blood drawn. She said the worst part was that she couldn't have her morning coffee.

After she had this we stopped into the McDonalds which was next door. I noticed the sign that had a new section added to it. It just didn't blend in right with the old faded sign. Anyway we had an egg and bacon biscuit with a coffee and then it was off to the flea market.
We had been there for about 5 minutes when we saw our friends Hazel and Lee. So we walked and talked around the flea market for a couple a couple of hours. Then the four of us went to the mall for lunch and some more conversation.
This was a pleasant afternoon spent with some good friends. After lunch we said our goodbyes. Nancy and I once again went to the WalMart for a while and then came home.

Nancy Trying for Blood Work Again

I said Monday that Nancy had to go and get some blood drawn. Well they told her she didn't have to fast and then when she got there they said she was suppose to. So they couldn't draw blood and that is why she has to try it again today. We will have to wait and have a late breakfast. I guess the word would be brunch. After that we'll go to the flea market for a few things. We haven't been to the flea market many times this season. This is not a good place to walk because even though you may not need anything seeing all the many things they have you will buy something,so the best time to go is when you are looking for that special thing.
We have no other plans for the day.

Haircut for Nancy

Yesterday was another nice sunny day and 84*.
I took Nancy over to Great Clips for her hair cut. I set in the car occupying my time listening to the scanner radio and watching traffic. I know that doesn't sound very exciting but,you know old people can find anything or nothing to do for the time to pass. Oh we can sit for hours watching birds or even watch ants crawl across the driveway.
After Nancy got her hair cut we went to the mall to walk a few miles then to ---yep Walmart to get our medicine this time.
After we got home it was getting time to eat dinner so I put some sirloins to grill while Nancy prepared the sides. I was a very good meal. After a couple of hours we did a walk around the park. I also renewed my PassPort America membership, even though I don't use this very often I never know when I will,so the membership will pay for itself after a couple of uses.

Wednesday, April 09, 2008

Yesterday started out a nice sunny day, getting warmer through the morning. So we got our sun tan lotion on and went down to get some sun and a dip in the pool. It was not to be,when we got down there they had a sign"pool closed". The chlorine pump was burned up and another is on order coming in today,oh well. So we had to walk and off to John Chestnut Park we went. As we walked out one trail we saw the usuall squirrels, birds and fish in the water.

On the way back was when we saw three Roseate Spoonbill bird, this is the first time for seeing this bird.
The roseate spoonbill spends a lot of its time in shallow water feeding. It sweeps its open bill from side to side in the water to sift up food like small fish, shrimp, mollusks, snails and insects. It has touch receptors in its bill that help it feel its prey. Like the flamingo, the roseate spoonbill's pink color comes from the food it eats. Some of the crustaceans it eats feed on algae that give the spoonbill's feathers their rosy pink color.
All days are good, just some are better. Love to get out in the forest to see all the creatures.
Hope your day is challenging and rewarding.

Good Sunshine Back Out

Yesterday the rain was gone and the sunshine back out and hot. There was a 20% chance of rain but we didn't get any. Also a slight chance of rain today. We walked around the park a couple of times and went to WalMart all of the things people normally do. We have some friends from church that are on their first camping trip with their new camper this week down at the Mayaka State Park. I'm sure they are going to enjoy that. Whats on scheldue for today, lets see. I've got to get a hair cut and then when I get back I'm planning on washing the car. Then we'll see what happens from there.

Rain All Day

Withnothing but the same old stuff happening saturday I didn't bother to post. Sometimes its hard to come up with things to put on a blog when you're setting in one place for a long time.
It won't be too long before we're on the move and hopefully I can get some more photos on the old blog.
Yesterday it was cloudy when we let for church and by the time church service was over we had to walk to the car in the rain. The weather man said it would start in the afternoon and last all day with the temp 83* He was almost right, everything except the temp which was 72* for the high. There wasn't very much traffic in down town New Port Richey.
Today day Nancy has to go and get some blood work done for the doctor's next visit. Of course back to WalMart again. It looks like the rain has goe so hopefully we will do some walking today. Tonight will be the finals of the tournament to find out who is the best of the best this year in college basketball.

Very Hot

Yesterday was a very hot day. It was too hot to get out and do anything, but we did manage to walk early and late in the day. We also did go to the laundromat and get a pizza. So we are set for awhile with that. We brought the pizza home and Nancy prepared a salad to go with it which made a pretty good dinner. Afterwards a little ice cream and time for the old folks to rest a little.
This morning is sunny but its going to cloud up and rain by noon time. Some more people have gone out of the park heading north to their homes.
Big schedule for the day, that will be watching the NCAA Final Four. It should be some good basketball watching today.
I can remember these hot days when I was a boy growing up. We would head down to the old "Tug River" for a swim and some fishing. Nowadays the water has to be tested and looked at so much before they think its safe to go into. I sometimes wonder how we ever lived without all the safety concern that they have today.
You have yourself a great day and do come back.

Good Report

Yesterday was another sunny hot day,it was near 90*.
Went to the doctor and got checked out. The blood pressure was fantastic, the heart sound was good and the doc says I can get off of the Plavix drug,so that made my day. I don't like taking medicine, not even aspirin. But I also know it is necessary for some people. We stopped into the new WalMart in Hudson to look around. This store is rather large with room for more new stock and still has room to walk. I never did like stores that have to block the aisle with merchandise. From there I had to celebrate my good news about the doctor visit by stoping in and eating at the Golden Corral Buffet. Oh I'm glad the doc didn't see that.
Today we have to go to the laundromat for sure. It will be another hot day today, the weather people say we're have June and July weather instead of April weather.

Thursday, April 03, 2008

Another Pool Day

Yesterday was suppose to be the laundromat day,but as usuall sometimes our plans change. We said lets go down to the pool and do the clothes later. The sun felt good and so did the water that after a couple of hours of this I guess we just got lazy. After we took our showers, got ready it was time for dinner. Then we went to the store to get some fruit and a birthday card for Harry,he's 100 years old. He and his wife(Hattie) who is 90 years old are ready to go back home in Missouri,so we went over to their place and spent some time visiting. We then took out the garbage and did some walking around the park. It was dark by the time we had walked and stopped to talk to several people.
Today another nice and sunny 83* day. I have an appointment with the cardiologist today for a check-up to see how everything is. He was wanting me to lose 10 pounds by this time and I think I may have lost half that much. So I'll have to see what he has to say about that.
This will be the last visit with him until we get back next December.
Those are the only plans for the day. We don't like to have to make very many plans,we just like for things to flow along and happen.
Hope you have a great day.

Pool

Yesterday was so nice and relaxing,we went down to the pool for a couple of hours. We needed that time with the sun to work our tan. We walked around the park once again to get our walking time in. I grilled some pork steaks and Nancy fried potatoes and we got more grease in our meal than we should have. Sometimes we just don't eat as healthy as we should, never the less it sure tasted very good. The rest of the evening was spent just like everyone else I guess, watching the tv and on the computer.
Today is laundromat time again so that will be the main thing to do today. We will get our walking in and try to fit in whatever else we can. Most of the time we are trying to do things but then other times we have to do stuff like 2 old people. Just because you're getting up in age doesn't mean you need to sit around all day. It is better if you keep moving to keep the joints loose. Speaking of joints about 3 months ago my knee was hurting and the doctor had an MRI on it that revealed some torn ligaments. He was wanting to set up an operation for me and I told him to wait. Well what do you know my knee feels good now and doesn't hurt or bother me. So I'm thankful for that. Sometimes you just jump into operations a little to soon. I also know that sometimes you have to its not wise to wait, but in my situation it was ok.
Today is my brother Nicks birthday,I wish you a great birthday Nick.
Thank you for visiting my website and do come back. Have a very nice day.

Trips around the Park

Yesterday we didn't think we were going to get much walking in but a little walking in the park a couple of times and then down to Walmart to walk and shop we ended up with 6 miles so I guess when you put in a little effort you can do it,
On the trip around the park we have a small alligator in the same spot for a couple of days and thought the little feller had died. So we were talking to Stuart (the guy that lives beside the lake) that one of the gators had died. Oh a big grin came across his face,he had got us with his joke. The gator was a toy gator that looked like a real one that he had placed down half way in the water.
Speaking of shopping for groceries, man the price has really gone up on everything. Not a lot of groceries for a lot of money.
More people leaving the park this morning,it is beganing to look a little deserted.
Today will be hot again and walking we be more of a challenge.
