A good visit

Doing some things that we needed to catch up on.
Tuesday I went to the carwash and gave (little red) our car a good scrubbing that was much needed.
Went to Kroger to buy soft drinks on sale at 4-12 pack for $11.00.

Yesterday I thought I had better fill the car up with fuel because the gas will no doubt go up in price being it a holiday weekend and the flooding in Texas.
Then yesterday evening Cherisa and Haven came over for a visit and afterwards we went out to eat.
After eating we sat and talked catching up on the news.
After leaving the restaurant Cherisa drove through Pigeon Forge so we could see what has changed since we were here last year.
This town is always tearing down and building new things for people to go to.
We enjoyed being with Cherisa and Haven for the evening visit.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

Pigeon Forge, Tennessee

We left Panther Creek State Park Campground around noon yesterday.

We were soon on I-40 and in no time we were ready at exit 407 headed for Pigeon Forge.
You are seeing right that is three lanes coming and going and the traffic still moves slow.

Some of the attractions you may want to see when you visit here.
Nice flowers line the sidewalk in front of Denny's and The Christmas Place.
In Pigeon Forge We made a left turn on route 321 better know as the Wears Valley Road travel for a mile then at the light turned onto Henderson Springs Road at the McDonalds for another 100 or so yards at the Walden Creek Campground.
Signed in at the office for four days at the Passport America price.  Then I unhooked the car and backed into site #25 on the front row.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

Still visiting

Saturday after doing our chores we got ready to go over and visit with Dee and her family.
She invited us over for dinner and it sure was a good meal.  One of my favorite foods that being steak and all the sides.  Of course the visit with them was just as good if not better since we only get to ee them once a year and if things work  out twice a year.

So yesterday Dee and her gang came over to have dinner and a visit with Nancy and me.
We will get to see them again at our family reunion this weekend.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

Mountain tops and valleys

After staying at the Cumberland Gap Campground for eleven days it was time to move on which we did yesterday
We left around noon time after dumping the holding tanks we were on our way to Panther Creek State Park in Tennessee for a visit With Dee our granddaughter and her family.
After traveling up and down the mountains.

Through valleys and riverside roads.

We stopped on top of Clinch Mountain to have us a sandwich to eat.
This is our usual stopping place where we can look out over the mountain tops and down at the Cherokee Lake in the valleys.

There is a memorial to the veterans of the county with the Flag of the USA flying proudly.

After eating and resting a bit we were on our way again.  Anther hour and a half we were pulling into Panther Creek Campground.
After checking in and setting up it was still early so we did a few loads of laundry.
There is a small laundry room at the shower house across the site that we are on with one washer and one dryer.
It was time to do our laundry and with the price of .75 for the washer and .75 for the dryer we did them here with that unbelievable price.

We called Dee when we got here so she came over for a short but very nice visit.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

Last day here

Tuesday morning doing our chores with taking the trash to the dumpster and carrying fresh water to put in the fresh water tank and taking the gray water to the dump station.  Also taking care of our morning things on the computers.
We got ready to go to the Family Medical Clinic over the line into Tennessee which is only 4-5 miles.  The reason was that Nancy had run out of her medicine and she would need a new prescription in order to get it.
We saw this fender bender on our way to the clinic.
In order for the doctor to write Nancy a prescription for her medicine she had to have blood drawn and they would have to check it. The doctor said something to do with the insurance company requiring it.
Even though they would not have the result from the lab until the next day she will get her medicine when we leave the clinic and pick it up at the Walgreen Pharmacy.
After picking up the medicine it was time to eat so we went to a KFC Buffet.
Not a good choice because this restaurant didn't have the juicy chicken that I'm use to at a KFC.
It may be that the chicken had set in the warming trays to long being the reason it was dry but we did manage to satisfy our hunger.

Today is our last day here in the Cumberland Gap Campground we will be leaving tomorrow for Panther Creek State Park in Tennessee.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

Eclipse and tomato sandwich

Yesterday was a day with the usual daily chores of getting some fresh water to put in the fresh water tank and taking out the gray water to take up to the dump station.  Taking the trash to the dumpsters.

Then it was time to wait for the eclipse to start.  We were on the fringe of total so the best we had was no sunshine and more like a darken evening.  One thing was that the temperature dropped six degrees during the total coverage of the sun.  We could tell it was covered but with out the eclipse glasses we were not able to look up to see it.

I made me a good tomato and mayonnaise sandwich with an extra large slice of the fresh home grown tomato. The tomato sandwich with a good glass of milk was really good.

We buy this milk in the quart carton that you can buy at Dollar Tree. You can also get it at the grocery store of your choice but it will cost you more.  We discovered this milk several years ago.
It has a shelf life of up to a year until its opened then you have to put it in the refrigerator and it tastes as good as regular milk. We keep three or four quarts on hand and it works for us.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

Good Food

I saw this small deer in the park the other day as I came around a curve in the park.
The little thing was still discovering its surroundings under the careful eye of its mother.
There are wild flowers scattered about the park that makes the scenery more beautiful.
Saturday I finally got around to grilling us the Ribeye Steak we have had in the refrigerator for way to long.
As I was grilling the steaks a guy named John from a few sites over brought these home grown tomatoes and said he thought I would like them to go with the grilled meat.
He was right we do like the home grown tomatoes better than the store tomatoes.
I even had tomato with my breakfast yesterday morning. That with the ham, peppers, onions and eggs all scrambled together sure tasted mighty good. Plus a biscuit, jelly and coffee sure started my day off good.
Then yesterday afternoon it was off to Middlesboro.
Through the tunnel to get us a pizza.
I bet Daniel Boone would have like the tunnel to go through instead of climbing over the high mountain.

How about you are you as excited over the solar eclipse as everyone else seems to be,
I remember a few years back when we had solar eclipse I used a welders lens to look at it.
If you miss this one there will be another in 2024 I don't know if it will be as spectacular as this one or not.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

A few things

This is our site B-3 at the Wilderness Campground in Cumberland Gap.
The site is an easy back in that is long enough and wide enough for a large camping unit with 50 amp electric.

As almost always we had to take back the things Nancy bought to wear.  But first was a stop at Wendy's for a bite to eat. Nancy had a Crispy Chicken sandwich, side salad and a Frosty to go, I had the Jr cheese burger with a small order of fries and we both had the senior drink all that for $6.00 a very good price for a meal for two people.
From there we went to Rose's where Nancy bought some things that did fit her at a better price.
We always like to stop and look at what Rose's have in their store when we see them while traveling.

This motor home stayed for one night here in the campground with Moonshadow Brew Tour on the front and side of it. I didn't see anyone around at the time so I don't know what that was all about.
One of the two handicap sites close to the rest rooms and showers with an upgrade by making the site a little longer.

I thought it being the weekend that most of the electric site would be taken up but there are still a lot of open sites here.
Maybe the people have gone to the Bristol Speedway for the Nascar Race.

With all the rain and the leaves falling it looks more like fall but the temperatures say it is still summertime.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

Help the bed isn't moving!

Tuesday we moved to another site because the site we were on was not level and in order to level the motor home one side had to be up way to much with the right front wheel being off the ground.
The site that we wanted came open so we took it because, we were in it last year and had a good satellite view and fairly level. But when I tried this time I could not get a clear view.  I guess the trees do grow a lot in a years time.
After we were set up and leveled, the electric plugged in I extended the front slide while Nancy was with the bedroom slide as we always do.  Only this time I heard Nancy yell "the bed isn't moving".
I went back to see what was going on, she was right the slide extended but the bed was not.
We had planned on going to the store when we were finished with setting up but now the plans had changed.
After removing everything from beneath the bed, taking the mattress off then removing the screws from the plywood platform I could see the whole problem.  After 15 years of use the screws holding the mattress platform in place had broken. With the platform back in place I began the process of screwing down everything and with many more screws for good measure.

Yesterday Nancy and I both started out with aching backs from all the heaving lifting from the day before, but we had to get ready to go to the store.

First was a stop at the Pelancho's Mexican Grill for a bite to eat.
Here is my bride of 60 years and eight months enjoying chips and salsa before our meal.

We both had the Burrito Supremo Nancy took the chicken and I had mine with steak with both of us said it was good.

After our meal we went to Walmart to do much needed shopping for groceries and other things that we had run out of.
Then it was another stop at Kroger for a few items that were a cheaper price.
By the time we got back home putting away the things we bought and the extra work the day before we were completely exhausted.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

Cumberland Gap

We pulled out of Jarod and Chelsea's driveway shortly after noon time to move on down the road.

After going through the town of Danville we took route 150 which is a nice country four lane road.
This road is sometimes up and down the countryside.
As we were coming down I saw all the yellow and thought I knew what it may be but not sure.
Then as we came beside of it yes it was tobacco and by the looks of it, it will not be long until harvest time for it.
Drove through Mt. Vernon, Kentucky.
Then we were on I-75 where this big diesel blew passed me. Traffic was very heavy with large truck, cars and rv's.
Soon we were on route 25E and even though it was raining and heavy fog in spots I was glad to be off the interstate.
After four hours of driving with stops to fill up the motorhome and a lunch break we arrived at the Cumberland Gap National Park.
The campground in the park is The Wilderness Trail Campground.
We will be here for a week or so before going into Tennessee.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

Enjoying another day

Here we are in another driveway.   This one is at the house of Jarod and Chelsea in Danville, Kentucky.
Here is their large log cabin.

Today will be our last day here and tomorrow is another moving day.
Part of the gang of fourteen that was here yesterday gathered around the table getting ready to eat.
One of the little ones enjoying the trampoline.
The inside of the house that they call a cabin is all wood with Nancy in the foreground looking like she has had a full day.
Jarod and Chelsea's house has the back yard next to the forest so every now and then a critter comes to visit.  Here is a large wild turkey walking through the yard.

We have had a good time here with the young ones.  This is our first time here with Jarod and Chelsea.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

Danville, Kentucky

Our time with Jackie has come to an end. As usual it was good to spend the time with Jackie she has been so good to us and as each and everyone of our family that we are visiting its just like coming back home and that is another reason we enjoy this full timing lifestyle.

But like always there is a time to get back on the road for the next stop.
we said our goodbyes yesterday and was on our way to get to Danville, Kentucky to visit the weekend with our nephew Jarod, his wife Chelsea and the four children.
But first we had to stop at the Walgreen in Winchester to pick up our prescription medicine that I had filled on line.  Also a stop at the Walmart for a much needed grocery fill up.
We then had to go to Lexington in order to take route 27 south which is a nice four lane road, just a little up and down the hill side.
This route has a lot of farm land and old barns that I like to see as each one is different with the different landscape around it.
The route takes you by the Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
We walked through the cemetery a few years back looking at the many grave sites reading the grave stone of the young men that gave their lives for our country.
This looks like a great place to eat and I bet they have fresh meat on the menu.

We did arrive at Jarod's, unhooked the car and backed the motor home down the drive way to its place for the weekend.
Vicki and Rebekah came down from Lexington for the weekend also.
We had a good spaghetti dinner that Jarod and Chelsea had prepared for us.
We had a very good visit with everyone but then it came time to come to the motor home for our medicine and rest some before going to bed.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

Matewan, West Virginia

After living in the Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg area for 30+ years our son has moved back to Matewan, West Virginia the town in which he grew up.  He has excepted a position with the town.

Matewan is the town in which the famous Hatfield and McCoy feud took place.

The Hatfield's on the West Virginia side of the Tug River and the McCoy's  on the Kentucky side shooting at each other.
It was also the scene of a battle between the coal miners and the Baldwin Felts detective agency (hired by the coal company. They threw the miners out their houses then the miners had to live in tents. The battle led to the deaths of several people.

So Monday Nancy and I drove the 125 mile trip to visit with him and his wife Mishell.
After catching up on the news of what has happened between us it was time to have something to eat.

We had dinner at the local Mexican Restaurant and the food was really good and really filling.
Here is Joe, Nancy and Mishell walking back to the house.
I walked down the street to look in the store windows to see what has changed from when we left the area.
It was good seeing Joe and Mishell but came time for us to be on our way back. Coming back home was a tiresome drive with the rain, fog and construction work going on.

Needless to say yesterday was a resting day.  More resting for Nancy than me.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.
