Good BBQ

Yesterday we went to Shallotte to find Joe's Bar-B-Que,but the name was changed. We had heard they have good food. The food was good and the price was even better and this was on a saturday evening for a buffet.

After an early dinner what else was there to do but to walk on the beach. Here the birds are always looking for a hand out and sure enough someone is willing to feed them.

Here are some people trying their luck at catching some fish in the intercoastal waterway.

Storm

Yesterday it was cloudy without any sunshine coming through the clouds at any time. We decided to drive down to Myrtle Beach to see what was new since we have been there in 2004. As we got near the storm clouds moved in so I turned and started back to the motorhome before we made it back we got caught in a bad storm with lightning, thunder and hail. It was hard to drive in.
Looks as though someone had an accident, maybe storm related.

By the time we got back to the campground the rain had stopped. We are staying in a very nice campgound (Wishing Well) with 15 sites. This is a Passport America campground and at half price is really cheap. We are only 5 miles from the beach.

Great Beach Day

Yesterday morning Nancy fixed a big breakfast. After eating we sat around drinking coffee. It looked like it was going to rain but,we went out to the beach anyway. The morning and afternoon turned out good,as the sun came out and stayed out. I take back what I said about this beach not being crowded. There were a lot of people enjoying the beach and sun yesterday morning,I guess this is when most of them come to the beach. We skipped lunch and I grilled hot dogs for dinner. After eating I washed my car that was in very much need of a wash. I also repaired a bay door latch that had broken. We had a very nice relaxing day.

Laundry and Beach

Yesterday it was time to do the washing of the clothes. So we had to go to Shallotte to a laundromat. Nancy had a big wash so it took a while to get it all finished. After we got back to the motorhome rested and watched a little tv it was time to eat dinner.

After dinner we went to beach side to walk along the beach and in the water. Here is the old bridge that has been here for years.

It is being replaced by a much needed tall modern bridge. We walked a couple of miles on the beach,it was nice and Sunset Beach is never crowded.

Sunset Beach,North Carolina

Yesterday we left the Walmart parking lot after a good nights rest.

I got off the interstate road and drove on route 378 across South Carolina. Passing old houses that are no longer good enough to live in but I'm sure a day not long ago was someone's pride and joy. Passing corn fields along the way, these are the small things I like to see on the back roads.
Here is something that might come along on the narrow roads that will slow you down when traffic is coming in the opposite direction. This gentlemen was on this small motr bike going around 30 mph. He was getting over as far as he could, but the road was to narrow to go around him when the traffic was coming.

We arrived in Sunset Beach around 2:30 pm at the Wishing Well Campground. It is a very nice and has 15 sites. The campground is located 4.5 miles from the beach side. This is the beachside street, only houses here. No motels or restaurants, just houses. It is nice to see that some of the beaches have not developed into the concrete jungles like Myrtle Beach and Daytona Beach have become. Sunset Beach is located 14 miles north of Myrtle Beach and 5 miles south of Ocean Isle.

Here is the beach at low tide. This is the only fishing pier along the 5 mile stretch of beach. We got here early enough to take a nice walk on the beach. It was so nice to look along the beach and see nothing but houses.

Sumter,SC

Yesterday we left Simpsonville and drove an amazing 134 miles before I stopped for the night. We are once again spending the night at a Walmart. I was going to stay at the FlyingJ in Columbia but the rv parking spots were not long enough. The motorhome and the car are almost 60ft in length. It looks as though we will be getting to Sunset Beach,NC a day early. We'll just see what happens today.

Where Are We?

Lets see now where are we indeed? Yesterday I was trying to decide where we could go. I searched and I looked and found a place to go so I told Nancy we will go there to see how it looked and if we liked it we might stay a couple of weeks. It was a US Forest Service Campground on a lake and it sounded good, but no hook ups,it did have water and a dump station which would have been enough for us. Then I said maybe we ought to stay in a Corp of Engineer Campground for a couple of days until we can check out the US Forest Campground to see if we liked it enough to stay for 2 weeks. While Nancy was getting ready I was still a little undecided I started looking and checking again. When Nancy was ready she says lets go to the campground. Oh no I says we're not going there,we're heading down to Sunset Beach South Carolina for at least 2 weeks. She says where is that. Its around 20 miles north of Myrtle Beach and I've given us 3 days to get there. I like to take my time and enjoy the trip. We stayed last night at the Simpsonville Walmart. Nancy tried calling her brother Don but could not get a hold of him so we will not get to see him.

Moving Day

Yesterday morning stated out slow, then everyone started their generators up. Nancy fixed my usual saturday breafast. After we got ready we went down to the Walmart in Commerce to get a few things and fill the car up with gas. It is $2.15 here now. After returning to the motorhome we went up to the concession stand here at the gospel sing to get our dinner, which was chicken planks and fries,we also got us a fried apple pie each. These apple pies are sure delicious.
Last night was the largest crowd that had attended the gospel sing. There were more groups singing so it started 5:oo pm instead of 7. The singing was very good once again. It has been a very good three night event and a do again event if we can work it into our plans next year.
Today is moving day so I hope we find a place to settle into tonight.

Looking for Campground

The Rhododendron is beautiful in the north georgia mountains. We saw bunches and bunches of them yesterday as I was looking for a campground when we leave here. We were looking at two forest service campgrounds as we like to be out in the woods. But they were to far off the main road and the price per night was too costly for the sites.
We were back at the gospel sing again last night and heard Mark Bishop,Naomi and the Segos,Archie Watkins,Down East Boys and The Roy Knight Singers. It was a good night of singing and the time passed fast.

Indian Creek Baptist Memorial Day Weekend Gospel Sing

After spending wednesday night at the FlyingJ,we just took our time getting ready for the road again. And why not we only had a mile and a half to go-

down to Indian Creek Baptist Church to the 3 day Memorial Weekend Gospel Sing.
Last night was Bluegrass night. Here the Watkins Family is on stage. Mike Upright along with The Marksmen and Exception To The Rule. They were all good.

Here we are along with the other campers around the big tent no more than 50 yards. This has been another good day and expecting tomorrow to be better.

Carnesville,Georgia

We had a nice spot to park at Sinclair Lake.
Had to watch out for the ants though. I wonder how many are in this ant hill?

Yesterday morning we walked down to the beach and back before we loaded up and left.

Again we passed some interesting things along the way. Here is an old gas station that a town is restoring. I thing it is a good thing to keep some of the old houses and building instead of tearing all of them down. I always like to see the old motels and stations along the back roads. Each one has their own design, not looking like they have all come out of the same mold.
We stayed at a FlyingJ last night it is only 1 mile from where we will be going to the "Gospel Sing".

Lake Sinclair

Yesterday after having lunch with Joan and Nick we said our good byes. It was very windy and driving was an extra chore. I drove up route 129 going past Bar-becue places.
Old buildings that have seen their better days.

Going through the town of Gray,Georgia and seeing this mural on the wall of this building.

We arrived at Lake Sinclair Campground. This is a Forest Service Campground with only 5 electric and water hook ups. This was not a problem though we were the only ones in the campground. It is off the main roadway so the only time that there may be any kind of crowd would be on a week end. We were here in October and we liked it so we decided to stop again.
After checking in at the self checking station and hooking the electric we took off down the road to Milledgeville to get something to eat. Looks like someone had an accident at this entersection.

Saw this Golen Corral in town and I like to eat at these restaurant. I'm glad we did because the people were very friendly and the food was the best at any Golden Corral that I have eaten in. So if you are in Milledgeville,Georgia when you feel the hungry pain stop in here.

Leaving This Morning

Yesterday Nick and I did around the same stuff. We went looking for a place to get a couple of extra keys for the motorhome. Nancy and I both forgot to bring the extra keys with us. I went to a couple of places and they couldn't match them up. I may have to stop by an rv place to see if I can get them. Nick and I stopped at a supply store where they were having a sale of 85% off. We had to buy a few things at that price.
Well we will be leaving this morning on our way to Carnesville,Georgia for a 3 day gospel sing this week end.
We have really enjoyed our time here. I kid Nick about his shopping and stopping in all the places, but I enjoy runing around with him.

Price of gas steady

Yesterday Nick and I made our rounds to the stores. This is an everyday thing with Nick,he has to check to see whats on sale and if he has a coupon for it. He's a careful shopper. The price of gas has stayed they same here in Warner Robins.

Ballgame

After breakfast, which was a little late this morning we got ready and went to watch Joanna play a game of little league soft ball game, she does real good.
From there we went to "Smiley's Outdoor Flea Market". Nick and I didn't buy a thing but Jacob bought some Bakugan things.
While we were at the flea market it began to get dark, then it began to thunder and lightning so we thought we had better get going before we got caught in a storm.
When we got back home Joan had lasagna for dinner and pumpkin pie for dessert. We then sat and watched the Preakness horse race. Another good day.

Running Around With Brother

Yesterday after a breakfast of eggs, bacon, grits, biscuit and coffee,we got ready to do our running around for the day. Nick had to go to State Farm, from there we were off to Home Depot,Lowes and Warner Robins Supply Co. This was looking for a rubber gromet for the stove top in the motorhome. Then Nick was off to Kroger for some groceries from there it was Publix. When Nick goes to a store you plan on staying awhile because he is a coupon shopper. We picked up Jacob and Jo from school. When we got back it was time for dinner. Yesterday it was large burgers, fries and a cola. We sat around afterwards watching tv.

On Base

Yesterday morning started as usual(when we are here in Nick's yard).
We went in the house,Nick does a lot of the cooking so he fixed us frenc toast and bacon for breakfast. They always try to give us too much to eat. We are going to have a hard time trying to hold our weight down. I don't know what Nick has planned for the day,but it is always going out to the stores. Thats ok though I like running around with my brother Nick. We haven't senpt much time together since we've grown up. Its understandable though when you got to work and have a family to take care of. Since I retired and Nancy and I took off in a motorhome Nick and I have had more time being together.
Nick and I went on base to the BX where he bought a few things.
Joan had us a great meal prepared for dinner, pork roast, corn, beans, rice and gravy it was a delicious meal, topped off with home made pecan pie and ice cream.

Warner Robins,Georgia

Yesterday we drove I-75 north to Warner Robins. The trip was nice and pleasent. I saw this sign several times and you do not know how hard it was to not stop and have a steak. It has been a long time since we have eaten at a Western Sizzlin Steak. This chain of restaurants served a delicious steak at one time. I know that my brother Nick would want us to eat with them so I passed up the urge.
They are doing work on I-75 for about a 60 mile strip. It wasn't so bad though,it was still 2 lanes of traffic both north and south.

Here was a guy with his pick up and a small trailer full of watermelons traveling north to hopefully to make a small profit sellinf them.

McDonalds Yesterday

Just a day of nothing going on. Yesterday we picked up the great grand kids,Andy and Hannah today after school. They wanted to go to McDonalds to eat so of course we went. They had their meal then got an icream afterwards. This was the first time in a long time that we have sat with little ones in a McDonalds. When our kids were growing up we spent many a time in McDonalds. The prices have changed but still not very much.
Well tomorrow is the day to move on. I just wished I would have filled the gas tank up when I arrived here. The price has gone up 35¢ in the 2 weeks we have been here.

Pecans Anyone?

Peaches isn't the only thing Georgia has. They have a huge amount of pecan trees. You don't see these trees driving on the interstate roads. Here in Valdosta
is a company that ships pecans anywhere you want them.

Slow Days

The week end was very nice. We went to church and the pastor had a good sermon. After church we came back to the motorhome, changed into some comfortable clothes and went over to Mark and Sherrys. As usual Mark had prepared a delicious meal consisting of roast beef, green beans, mashed potatoes and rolls. After dinner they surprised Nancy with a birthday cake.
Today is Sherrys day off of work so we will spend most of the day with her and Nancy will catch up on doing our laundry.
We will be leaving here wednesday heading north to Warner Robins to visit with my brother Nick and his family.

Nice place to park

This is Jeremy and Tiff's yard where we are parked. This is a nice set up we have water and electric. We do have to go to a gas station to dump, but that is not a problem since it is only 7 miles away.
Once again Mark and Sherry has invited us out for lunch. Mark is grilling burgers, which I know will be good. From there it is as usuall,in that we have no plans.

7:30pm

We are back home from Mark and Sherrys. The burgers that Mark fixed us were good. After lunch we played a game of scrabble, then sat around and watched tv for a while, chatted and around 5:30 we went out for dinner, where we talked some more and ate a good meal. After we said our goodbyes we came home and here we are. Now we can pull off our shoes and relax some more.

Thursday, May 07, 2009

Yesterday we went to the church for dinner. They have this every wednesday evening and the price is right. The menu was salisbury steak, mixed vegetables and mashed potatoes. This plus a very good (put it together yourself)salad and a brownie with ice cream. Today Nancy and I went to sears to get us new shoes that we have said the last 4 months that we needed. I also washed the car this morning.

New Computer

I had to get a new computer. With the cost of repairing my old one it just wouldn't have been cost effective. I have spent a lot of time and haven't even made a dent in tranfering all the information from my old one. I can't do one of those quick transfers because I might transfer the old problem with it,so it is one thing at a time.

Monday, May 04, 2009

Oh My!

WOW,what a time I've been having. With my computer that is. It slowed down to a craw and then stopped working altogether. The screen froze up when I turned it on and then when the screen did like it was suppose to the keyboard wouldn't work. I took it in to get it checked and the tech tried it and it wouldn't connect to the internet. He said he couldn't even check it the way it was acting. So he tried to turn it off and it wouldn't turn off,so he says just to close it up and it would eventually go off. He says just guessing it might cost $300.00 to fix it. At that price and the screen now with 10 dead pixels I see a new laptop in my future.
Well anyway we were back over to visit with Mark and Sherry since she had the day off. Once again Mark Had a good meatloaf dinner with mashed potatoes, green beens and rolls.

Spaghetti Dinner

Yesterday we went over to Mark and Sherrys shortly afternoon to spend the day. We talked for a while and watched tv some then we played a board game. Then dinner time came and it was time for some of Marks good spaghetti. We all enjoyed that Mark knows how to make spaghetti. After Jeremy got off of work he came over and Tiff brought the little ones over. We enjoy seeing Andy and Hannah run, jump and play. They had a good time. We left a little after 8:00pm and headed for the motorhome.
Today it is now 11:30 and I've already changed the oil, filter and greased the motorhome. I also changed the oil and filter in the generator,so I'm all set with that for a while. I guess I will watch a little golf and then the Kentucky Derby.

My Birthday,Day

We went to Walmart yesterday for some groceries and Nancy got a few extra things that she thought the great-grandkids would want to eat. Then Nancy said she wanted to take me out for my birthday dinner. After we got back and later in the evening Sherry came over and we went out to Jeremy and Tiffs house where they had me a cake and some ice cream. That cake with the big 7 and 1 on it sure did look like it might belong to someone besides me. But no,it was mine. Sherry only has to work a half day today,so she wants us to come over for dinner. I was going to change the oil and grease the motorhome. I guess I will do that tomorrow. No sweat,I'm not on any kind of schedule.
